Who We Are?   Did You Know?   Reviews?

We are a small business with a big heart for the "simple pleasures" in life

We have a permanent location and a mobile trailer for parties and events

Our mission is to provide a few simple pleasures and service that makes you smile

"Ohana" means family & no one is left behind. We love the meaning and the inclusiveness

So how did we get here?

The decision to leave the corporate world and the stability after so many years was a big one.  However, it was an easy decision to start a small fun business where we get to listen to music that makes us feel like we are on vacation all the time, wear shorts and t-shirts, work along side of family and friends, do something that is actually fun, and offer something that makes both kids and adults smile.

I had an interest in doing something like this for a very long time and look forward to growing it into more of the overall vision in the near future. Stay tuned....

In remembering and reflecting over what I considered some wonderful "simple pleasures" in life, I can recall those simple times where a sweet iced tea, lemonade, Kool-Aid, or a Popsickle was all we wanted to top off the day. In more recent years, watching my son, other children, as well as adults smiling and laughing while enjoying a shaved ice, iced tea, or lemonade it once again reminded me of the "simple pleasures" that still hold true. I remember thinking, years ago, about how much fun it would be to have a place where people could come and enjoy a few of the simple things with their family and friends and now "Ohana Hut" has become a reality.

Although we had never operated a shaved ice or smoothie business, it seemed like a fun idea and one that would teach entrepreneurship and responsibility to my young son and possibly other young men and women entering the workforce. We started in a mobile unit in the summer of 2017.  The response was great so when another opportunity presented itself, we opened a second location in Elgin and hired seven team members to help us. We loved being in downtown Elgin but the property we were leasing was sold to build apartments. So we moved our building to a great location on Hwy 290 in Giddings. We thank our customers in Elgin and we may be back there in the future.

We want to sincerely thank all of our customers! We enjoy our conversations with you and the smiles and compliments are a bonus! We look forward to seeing you at our permanent location in Giddings or at an event in our mobile unit.

Did you know?

  • Shaved Ice vs Snow Cones - What's the difference? Snow cones are made with crushed ice and the flavored syrup doesn't absorb into the ice but is more like a regular drink with ice. A shaved ice is more of a dessert where the ice absorbs the flavored syrup and minimal liquid is in the bottom of the cup
  • "Shave" or "Shaved" Ice (D or no D)? The Hawaiian tradition is to use the term "Shave Ice" vs "Shaved Ice" and we understand many aficionados prefer the use of "shave ice" since that is how Hawaii does it. We have much respect for the Hawaiian tradition. Ohana Hut provides a great shaved ice that absorbs flavored syrup like "Hawaiian Shave Ice" however, since we are not part of the Hawaiian shaved ice traditions, we chose to use the term "shaved Ice" with the "D"

What Our Customers Are Saying...

All the smoothies are great. I can't decide which one I like best but I think mango.

I am in love with the birthday cake and heavy cream! It doesn't get better.

I am so glad you came to Giddings. We didn't have a shaved ice place here.

So happy you have real pickle juice!

I know your gonna laugh but, can I have coconut with pickle juice?

I want mango with Chamoy and chili powder. It's the best! (Mangonada)

What's a "Twisted Soda" and can I try any flavors? Coke is really good with lime and coconut.

4 year old says, "I want a Batman and my sister (6 mos old) wants a Superman." Mom says, "Just a Batman, please."  :)
